Community Guidelines

Commons is meant for public-safe, de-sensitized collective memory. These guidelines explain what good participation looks like and how moderation works.

Updated March 15, 2026

Respect people and context

Commons is not a place for harassment, humiliation, or retaliation. Speak about disagreements in terms of claims, evidence, citations, and context rather than attacking other users or subjects of a story.

Do not post personal contact information, identifying details, or sensitive third-party material that was not meant for public sharing.

Keep contributions public-safe

Commons contributions should stay de-sensitized and broadly shareable. If a memory requires private context to be understood safely, keep it in your private archive instead of publishing it publicly.

Users are responsible for reviewing submissions before promoting them to Commons.

Disputes and moderation

Moderation may remove or restrict content that violates these rules, threatens privacy, or creates unnecessary harm. Repeat abusive behavior may result in account or posting restrictions.

Contested material may be labeled, reviewed, or removed. Moderation decisions are made to preserve safety, clarity, and trust in the public archive.
